Value of a Colt AR?

What is a good selling price for a pre-brady ban Colt Sportster Competition 20" HBAR (Model R6700 - First year produced 1992)?

Have not seen many on auction sites to compare to except for post ban models. Thanks.

It has detachable handle, but the gun was made 1992 and I have put only about 750-1000 rounds through it total. Would $900 be too much to ask?

It's worth what someone will pay for it. Take it to a gun show and walk around. You'll sell it.

you can try, $900
the price could always be lowered
If you are an earnest seller, and you are working with a reluctant buyer try sweetening the deal by adding +'s.
20rnd mag, new $20.
factory ammo, $10/box
and don't forget the fired brass, $.10 +/- each.
earlier this year $900 Colt would have sold quickly.

Kinda depends on the area of the country. Even though the market is glutted with ARs today, Colts tend to bring a bit of a premium among the AR crowd (even though it's not a 6920). Clean it up good, maybe wipe it down with a little Break Free CLP, include extras as mentioned (sling, mags, ammo, cleaning kit, etc.), walk around the gun show with a tag showing price and listing extras. Start around $1250...be willing to negotiate a bit.

I know several guys that have recently sold AR's. One Colt SP1 went for 950.00 and a DPMS flat top with 24" heavy barrel went for 800.00.
Run of the mill AR's look to be a little hard to move right now, but your Colt should do OK. Adding extras as mentioned above is always an option too.

I went to a gun show this weekend. A guy was walking around with a Stag Arms and a DPMS M4gery. He wanted $800 for each. I doubt that $900 for the Colt would be unreasonable.

Thanks guys. I can't do a private sale where I am (20 round mag limit as well now days). I think I can dig out the original mags (I think they were the size of a 20 that was blocked off to make it 5 rounds) and might have one or two 20 round mags in storage. Lots of 30's around, but can't be transferred.

Probably do a cosignment through my favorite local dealer.

Lots of unexpected bills (medical and helping family) and I have two other AR's (1 complete noveske and 1 noveske upper with lmt lower - both 14'5" carbines).

Re: Value of a Colt AR?

Talked to my local FFL tonight. He has some system to lookup current book values on used guns. He said a pre brady ban R6700 (made in 1992) at 95% condition is worth $1400. Crazy. Going to take it down to him tomorrow to have him rate the condition it is in.

I don't expect to get anywhere near that. But If I can get cash 900-1000, i would take in on the spot.

Sold an MT6731 with Aimpoint red dot, original 9 rounder and a 30 at a gunshow for $1200 last weekend.
